I am beyond excited that Hershey crossed over to the dark side this fall with the introduction of Dark Nights. Since my boys were babies, I have been taking them to Hersheypark for the Halloween season. Although we LOVE all the family friendly activities, we were ready for some spine tingling fun!
How It Works:
At 6pm, the dead, or should I say undead, come out to play. The scare zones are included with admission; however, the haunted houses are an additional fee. Guests can purchase the Dark Nights passes online or at the park. Once at the park, make sure to get your HPGO wristband which will be scanned at each haunted house before entry. You can also add a Dark Nights Fast Track to your ticket if you want to jump closer to the front of the line. Check the Hersheypark website ticket options including bundles.
Scare Zones
There are 3 scare zones around the park with each one offering a unique experience. I recommend visiting the park more than once this season so you can really spend some time in these zones. There is so much to see, and the character interaction is amazing.
Darkstones Hollow
During Dark Nights, The Hollow transforms into a world of intrigue and mystery. Guests can encounter various strolling entertainers that will interact with the crowd. My boys loved getting handed cards and having their future “read” to them.
Valley of Fear
Journey through the mist, if you dare, to the Valley of Fear which is located along Spring Creek. Watch out for whatever is hiding in the shadows.
Midway of Misery
Head towards Laff Trakk to enter a world of misery. As you walk through the fiery archway, you will be greeted by dark and sinister creatures of the night. You never know what will be lurking around each corner.
Haunted Houses
There are 4 unique haunted houses scattered around Hersheypark, and they are only open during Dark Nights. They offer both indoor and outdoor adventures that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Creature Chaos
Located in Darkstones Hollow near the Sooper Dooper Looper is a terrifying haunted house that takes guests on a journey with Professor Darkstone as their guide. You never know what mythical creature will be hiding around every bend. You may even encounter the Jersey Devil.
Haunted Coal Mine
After exiting Creature Chaos, head over to the Haunted Coal Mine…if you dare! Located next to the Trailblazer, this horrifying attraction takes you through the abandoned coal mines of Hersheypark. It is an explosive adventure with horror lurking around every corner.
The Descent
Take a journey to the depths of hell and back in The Descent, which can be found next to the Wildcat graveyard (aka where the infamous Wildcat coaster used to stand). From start to finish, this haunted house will transport you to another dimension filled with fear.
Twisted Darkness
Next to Laff Trakk is Twisted Darkness, a haunted house like no other. This carnival themed attraction is what nightmares are made of, especially if you are afraid of clowns!
Spooktacular Food
During Dark Nights, guests can enjoy amazing Halloween themed snacks and treats. Although some favorites have returned like apple pie mini donuts and King Size shakes, there are even more options to sink your teeth into. There are even themed cocktails that come in souvenir glow in the dark glasses. Check out the Dark Nights map for menus and locations.
Here are some of my favorites:
- Crab Meat Critter Fritters – Darkstone’s Base Camp
- Terror Tots – Darkstone’s Base Camp
- Brimstone Bread – Trailblazer Grill
- Brisket Sandwich – Spring Creek Smokehouse
- Sinful Cinnamon Bread – Spring Creek Smokehouse
- Toxic Mac & Cheese – Berks Dogs of Doom
- Apple Pie Mini Donuts – East Coast Mini Donuts
- King Size Shakes – Simply Chocolate
Make sure to also check out the spooktacular menus at The Chocolatier, The Sweeterie, and Milton’s.
Tips:
- Arrive hungry! There are so many amazing things to try so bring your appetite.
- Start your haunted house journey at Creature Chaos. There is a food stand within the line so you can eat while you wait. It makes the time go by much faster.
- Wear comfortable shoes. You will do a lot of walking around the park which includes up and down hills.
- Download the Hersheypark app. The app has a park map along with wait times that will help you plan out your night.
- Arrive early! The lines can get long so I recommend arriving early. Although Dark Nights attractions don’t begin until 6pm, there is plenty to do around the park before then. Make sure to check out Treatville, a spooktacular trick or treat trail for kids (and kids at heart).
So what are you most excited about doing at Hersheypark this Halloween?
