If you are looking for fun and adventure sprinkled with some relaxation, then you have to take a trip to gorgeous Sussex County to spend the day at Mountain Creek Waterpark. Nestled within the mountains in Vernon, NJ, Mountain Creek offers endless excitement for guests of all ages. As residents of Sussex County, we have been taking our boys to this unique waterpark since they were toddlers, and it has been amazing to watch them grow with each trip we take.

Mountain Creek Waterpark

I was so excited to be an invited guest to the waterpark on none other than National Waterpark Day! We were provided passes to the waterpark as well as a cabana to enjoy during our stay. I have written about this incredible NJ destination in the past highlighting adventures for all ages so in this post, I am going to provide some tips and tricks to make your day even more amazing!

Tips for Visiting Mountain Creek Waterpark

Be Prepared to Walk

Walkway at Mountain Creek Waterpark

As stated on the signs located around the waterpark, Mountain Creek is an Alpine Environment which means, well, you will be walking A LOT. The terrain is uneven, up and down hill, and can get slippery at times. Don’t let this scare you though because the treks around the park are absolutely gorgeous. The views of the mountains are spectacular and the rock paths make you feel that you are enjoying a day at one with nature. It truly is a unique experience that you will not find at other waterparks.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

As I mentioned, you will be doing a lot of walking from slide to slide so I highly recommend wearing comfortable flip-flops, water shoes, or slides. The ground can also get very hot so you will want to protect your feet. Each ride/attraction offers shoe racks to hold your shoes or any other belongings you need to carry around

Rent a Cabana

Cabana at Mountain Creek Waterpark

I am a big believer in renting a cabana when spending the day at a waterpark. It allows families to rest, relax, and regroup before the next big adventure. The cabanas at Mountain Creek Waterpark are conveniently located next to the wave pool allowing for easy swimming access all day long. Each cabana fits up to 8 people and provides ample seating with a couch on the inside and 2 lounge chairs on the outside. There is also a refrigerator with complimentary water and fruit. Waitress service is also available including a variety of beer and cocktail choices. In addition, a large locker is located inside the cabana to keep your valuables tucked away while out exploring the park.

Face Your Fears

Mountain Creek Waterpark

Every time we visit Mountain Creek Waterpark it is a new and exciting experience for my family. As my boys get older, they get bolder and more daring. As a mom, this is a scary yet proud moment. I love watching them challenge themselves and face their fears. This visit, my boys and their friends jumped off Canyon Cliff Jump (guests must be 54 inches to jump). They were so elated and proud when they got out of the pool. My 9 year old also decided to do Bombs Away which is a slide that ends with an 18-foot freefall into the water (guests must also be 54 inches to go down this slide). He LOVED it!

Take Some Time to Relax

Cabana at Mountain Creek Waterpark

Facing your fears can be exhausting, right?! Make sure to take some time to relax while at Mountain Creek Waterpark too. Whether it’s hanging out in the High Tide Wavepool, sipping on a cocktail at the cabana, or resting on one of the many chairs located all around the park, I definitely recommend taking some time to relax and unwind during your stay.

Read the Code of Conduct

It is important to know the rules before entering and exploring Mountain Creek. They are posted at the park but can also be found on their website. Safety is the number one priority at Mountain Creek. One rule I felt it was important to note here is that some slides/attractions have strict rules when it comes to dress code. For instance, some slides do NOT allow guests to wear shorts or shirts/rash guards. Also, please make sure to look at the height requirements for rides before getting in line. There is nothing worse than seeing the sadness in a child’s eyes when they are turned away right before riding.

HAVE FUN!

My best tip is to let loose and have fun! We enjoyed every moment of our day, even the scary ones. With summer seeming to fly by, it is important to embrace every moment and every experience. We stayed from open to close and made memories to last a lifetime!
