In full disclosure, I received a copy of All in a Rainforest Day in exchange for my honest review. An affiliate link is also included.
Ever wonder what the inside of a rainforest looks like?
Did you know about all the vibrant colors and amazing animals hidden in one of nature’s wonders?
The book All in a Rainforest Day allows families to embark on a beautiful journey through rainforests all over the world. The author Ellen B. Senisi tells the story of the rainforest in a way that is easy for children to understand, and the photographs by Thomas Marent capture and share the breathtaking sights of the rainforest that many never knew existed. This book is a wonderful depiction of a day in the rainforest that can help children understand life science including learning about ecosystems.
All in the Rainforest Day is part of an educational curriculum developed by EdTechLens. The Rainforest Journey program consists of the following:
- 34 lessons for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade that focuses on life science.
- Series of videos including interviews by scientists, clips of animal life and trips to the rainforest.
- A list of hands-on activities and experiments.
- Classroom assessments including short answer and open ended questions.
- Optional enrichment including posters, additional hands-on activities and this book, All in the Rainforest Day.
- Blogs for educators and students.
This article will take a closer look at the book All in a Rainforest Day. In just 32-pages, this book will captivate young readers and spark their curiosity regarding the rainforest and science. My boys LOVED reading this book together. In fact, the first time we sat down with it, they made me read it twice! They pointed at all the pictures and asked a ton of questions along the way. I knew they were intrigued, focused, and best of all, learning!
4 Benefits of Reading All in a Rainforest Day
Exposes Kids to New Ideas and Concepts
This book allows kids to visit a place they may never be able to see in person. It gives them a firsthand account of what it looks like and how the animals live. I love that the book uses photographs instead of illustrations as this more readily captivates children as well as provides a real life perspective. This book introduced my kids to new places such as Costa Rica and Brazil as well as new creatures such as the Katydid and Malayan Tapir.
Engaging
All in a Rainforest Day really engages children which helps them focus and pay attention. That, in turn, allows them to better absorb and grasp the information presented. The bright colors and spectacular landscapes helped my kids understand the story as well as engage them in the story telling process.
Introduces Children to Science
This book is a wonderful way to introduce children to life science, ecology (the study of organisms and their environment) and animal science. Through the story told, kids learn what some animals do to survive as well as how plants are able to grow in this environment. The back of the book lists the locations for each picture and the names of the animals which I found very helpful and interesting.
Enhances Basic Academic Knowledge
While reading All in a Rainforest Day, my boys loved labeling all the colors in the animals and reptiles. They also enjoyed counting the number of objects on the page especially the Flatid Leaf-bugs. I also had my boys repeat the animal and country names to help improve articulation and increase vocabulary. For early readers, this book is great way to work on decoding and comprehension skills.
As you can see, All in a Rainforest Day would be a perfect addition to any classroom or home library. Kids will be captivated while learning all about the rainforest and it’s ecosystem. It also leads the way to wonderful discussions about science and fun experiments and hands-on activities. To purchase your own copy for only $17.95 visit the EdTechLens website or amazon.com.
