Spooktacular Fun at Six Flags Fright Fest

In full disclosure, we were provided tickets in exchange for our honest review. The opinions expressed belong to Mommy University.

Updated for 2022!

Fall in NJ is a spectacular season filled with farm fun, changing leaves, and spooky experiences, and no event says Halloween in NJ quite like Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure. I am ashamed to admit that as a born and raised Jersey girl, last year was the first time I went to Fright Fest. Crazy right?! It was such an incredible experience that we came back again this year!

For those that don’t know, Fright Fest is an amazing event that offers family friendly fun by day but chills and thrills by night. The event takes place on select days/nights through October 31, and an admission ticket is required. Guests 12 and under are encouraged to wear costumes; however, masks or full face coverings are not permitted.

How It Works:

  • Tickets to the park can be purchased in advance or in-person.
  • The daytime family friendly experiences, rides, entertainment, and scare zones are all included with regular admission.
  • An additional Fright Pass is needed to visit the 6 haunted mazes/houses including those that open after dark.
  • Express passes are also available for purchase. These passes allow you to skip the regular line.

Night Time Thrills

Six Flags Fright Fest

Around 4pm, the haunted houses and mazes open. A Fright Fest pass is required for entry, and I definitely recommend getting the express pass so you don’t have to wait in line. The 4 indoor attractions include:

  • The Manor – Have fun exploring this haunted mansion filled with ghostly horrors.
  • Reflections of the Dead – You never know what you will see or hear in this creepy mirror maze.
  • Fears – Face your biggest fears, if you dare, in this spooky haunted attraction.
  • Big Top Terror – Put on your 3-D glasses and experience a new kind of circus!

At 6pm, the fright really kicks off with The Arrival Ghoul Parade. During the parade, we got a sneak peek at some of what was to come after dark. From clowns to ghouls to mutants and freaks, there’s plenty to get you excited for all the frights. The parade route is located on the Fright Fest map so make sure to get a good spot to watch the show.

After the parade, make sure to check out one of the many Monstertainment Shows around the park. Dead Man’s Party offers an upbeat show filled with classic Halloween music paired with incredible choreography, while Unleashed at Showcase Theatre features acrobats, illusionists, and dancers. Blood Drums is a unique show where the music is made by the use of power tools.

As the sun sets, the scare zones go into full effect. With 5 zones around the park, there are plenty of places to get scared. Be prepared for anything as the creatures of the night will pop out of nowhere or chase you down the path. Guests will also have the chance to take pictures with their favorite creepy ghouls or clowns.

The 5 Scare Zones include:

  • Clown Town
  • District 6: Unearthed
  • Lady of the Lake Cemetery
  • Scarecrow Street
  • Exile Canyon (NEW this year)

The final adventures of the night are the most terrifying! Guests with Fright Fest passes can explore 2 outdoor experiences that are not for the faint of heart. Although the other attractions are scary, these, by far, are the scariest of all the experiences at Fright Fest. The night time adventures include:

Aftermath – Walk through a post-apocalyptic neighborhood that has been taken over by mutant scavengers. This was my son’s favorite experience. It was also the one that gave us the biggest jump scare as a zombie jumped down from a hole in the ceiling. My son and I were frozen in fear for a few seconds. It was awesome!

Blood Shed – Take a walk through the backwoods, if you dare. It is what nightmares are made of!

Which experience are you most excited for?
