With two children a year apart, the holidays were a big deal at the daycare where they both attended. Daycares or Learning Centers make holidays a big celebration and as the parent of young kids I always wanted to make the parties a little more special. Yes, I am that parent that adding a little extra sparkle into the parties. However, since I am limited on time I tried to maximize my supplies and kept the ideas simple. You would be amazed what you can accomplish with electric tape and a Sharpie marker!
Simple Holiday Treats for Daycare Parties
Halloween
Frankenstein Pudding
To make this you will need clear plastic cups, vanilla pudding, green dye, Oreo cookies and a sharpie marker. After you make the vanilla pudding, add some green dye and stir. Next, pour the green pudding evenly into clear cups. Using a sharpie marker, draw a Frankenstein face on the cup. Then, crush the Oreo cookies and sprinkle on top. Let the dessert dry and refrigerate the cups. Easy right?!
Mummy Juice Boxes
You will need juice boxes, white electrical tape, googly eyes, and sharpie marker. Gently peel the straw from the juice boxes being careful to not tear the plastic. Next, wrap the white tape around the juice box in a haphazard pattern. After the juice box is completely covered, glue on the googly eyes (and crooked is totally fine). You can also cut a small piece of tape to cover one of the eyes slightly. You can tape the straws to the box. Voila! All done!
Thanksgiving
Turkey Cups
The Turkey cups are a little more labor intensive because you will be cutting out different color feathers for the tail of the turkey so I usually enlist my children to help. You will need a clear plastic cup, googly eyes, and construction paper. Cut out two circles on brown construction paper as well as feathers in different colored paper. You can tape or glue the circles on the cup. Cut small yellow triangles for the beak. Glue googly eyes on the top circle as well as the yellow beak. Glue the feathers on the back of the cup. You can deliver the cups empty and provide a bag of Pirate Booty, chips or other snack that they can fill in the cup.
Winter Holiday Party
Snowman Juice Boxes
You will need juice boxes, white electrical tape, googly eyes, red felt, glue and sharpie marker in black and orange. Gently peel the straw from the juice boxes being careful to not tear the plastic. Then wrap the white tape around the juice box. After the juice box is completely covered, you will glue the googly eyes, and use the orange marker to draw the carrot nose. Next, use the black marker to draw the coal mouth and buttons. Cut the red felt into strips, then glue them around the “snowman” to make a scarf.
Snowman Cheese Sticks
You will need cheese sticks, Sharpie marker in black and orange, black paper and red felt. You will need to create the first draft of a scarf with the red felt. Then simply cut enough scarves to fit on all the cheese sticks. You can either tie the scarves or glue them on the stick. Using the orange marker, draw the carrot nose and with the black marker draw eyes and mouth. The black construction paper is to be cut into the hat and tape or glue on the cheese stick.
Snowball cupcakes
To make snowball cupcakes, you will need cupcake batter, vanilla or white icing, and sparkly sprinkles. To decorate, apply white icing to the cupcake. Then pour the sparkly sprinkles on a plate and dip the cupcakes into the “snow.” I loved the look of these because they are all about winter fun!
Christmas Tree Brownies
Brownies are a staple of any child’s holiday party so this simple design is fun and adorable. Brownie mix, green icing in a tube, sprinkles, and yellow star sprinkles are needed to make this treat. Make brownies following instructions on the box. Then cut the finished brownies into triangle shapes. Decorate with green icing and sprinkles. This is so easy that it’s perfect to have your children help make them.
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day Cards
Why not double the snacks with a Valentine? You can pick up applesauce pouches at the store then just attach a cute Valentine’s Day card. You can make your own card or use a store-bought one. Either way, it is an adorable holiday treat!
Easter
Easter Bunny Juice Boxes
You may have noticed that juice boxes are a popular go to item in this post. Well, after picking up white electrical tape it just seemed easy to modify the original Mummy Juice Box pattern. The Easter Bunny Juice Box is slightly more labor intensive as you need to cut out ears. You will need juice boxes, white electrical tape, white paper, googly eyes, and sharpie marker. Gently peel the straw from the juice boxes being careful to not tear the plastic. Wrap the white tape around the juice box in a haphazard pattern, then add the ears. After the juice box is completely covered, you will glue the googly eyes. With a sharpie marker draw nose, whiskers, and mouth. Enjoy!
