In full disclosure, Mommy University was provided with free passes to World of Wings in exchange for our honest review.
Are you looking for a place to take your children where they can explore their environment, learn through play AND discover new interests and talents?
“Where is this amazing place?” you ask. Well, it’s World of Wings, of course. Located in Teaneck, NJ, World of Wings offers children and families hours of fun and adventure all while developing important cognitive, academic, language, motor and social skills! World of Wings is a unique family fun place that combines the exploration and intrigue of a museum with the multi-sensory, interactive fun found at an indoor play place. It has something for everyone!
Mommy University was recently invited to spend the day at World of Wings (WOW) which we happily accepted. I have heard so many good things about WOW but I had no idea it would be as amazing as it was! My kids, ages 5 and 2.5, were so excited to explore, I could barely contain them.
Due to their love of animals and reptiles, they begged to walk through the exhibit area first. They had so much fun looking at and learning about all the lizards, frogs, turtles and snakes. After about an hour of exploring this area, the kids let out some energy in the indoor play area. They loved rocking on the see-saw and sliding down the slide. Just down the hall, we also enjoyed ring toss, horseshoes and basketball!
Next, we headed down the hall and explored the make your own bubbles room and the Illusion Room. Both areas brought on tons of squeals and giggles as they popped giant bubbles then spun around and made themselves dizzy. After all the fun, we headed to the 2nd floor where we found even more excitement and adventures starting with a fun climbing wall and arcade.
Our favorite place to explore was the large open play area. After crawling through the cube play area, the kids had over 10 interactive areas to choose from. My boys and their friends ran, jumped, played and explored for hours! Our second favorite area to visit was the Butterfly Atrium where we had the pleasure of witnessing a butterfly release!
I think it is pretty clear that World of Wings is a fun and adventurous place for kids, but did you know it was educational too?
5 Developmental Benefits of Visiting World of Wings
Encourages Language Development
As kids explore World of Wings, they are learning new words, concepts and ideas! Little ones can not only label a variety of colors and shapes, they also learn to label various reptiles and insects. Enhance their language skills even more by having them describe each animal. Also talk about what the animal eats and where it lives. In addition, while playing kids are learning to use social language as well as conversational skills such as turn taking and using manners.
Enhances Motor Skills
World of Wings offers several areas where kids can climb, run, jump, build and play. All these activities involve both gross and fine motor skills. As kids play, they are strengthening their muscles and enhancing their hand-eye coordination. The rock walls, basketball games and ring toss games also offer kids the opportunity to use their motor planning skills as well as build their visual-spatial skills!
Increases Social Skills and Social Awareness
At World of Wings, my kids had an amazing time playing with their friends as well as making new friends. As kids play, they are learning essential social skills. They become more aware of what is socially acceptable and what is not. They learn to play appropriately with others and how to make friends. These are all skills that will not only help them in school but in life!
Provides an Introduction to Scientific Concepts
The exhibit area is a wonderful way to introduce children to the world of herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians). Each creature has its own sign stating its name and listing facts about it. Kids can learn about reptiles and amphibians from all over the world! Kids are also exposed to entomology (the study of insects). Throughout the museum, families are introduced a variety of insects and butterflies. Visitors can also learn all about the life cycle of a butterfly including possibly seeing them break free from their chrysalis.
Stimulates the Imagination
The World of Wings offers endless opportunities for kids to be creative and use their imaginations. They can wonder what it would be like to have a snake as a pet. They can pretend to be scientists as they discover different species of butterflies. They can even be police officers as they chase their friends in the toy cars and scooters. Allowing your child to use their imagination helps increase cognitive development as well as language skills and even reading comprehension!
As you can clearly see, World of Wings is a wonderful place to help foster development while also spending time with family and friends! So pack up the kids and head on out to WOW today!
