Light up the Night in New Jersey!

It doesn’t matter where you sit on the debate of when is the right time to set up your holiday lights because when December arrives it is all about admiring the craftsmanship, creativity and designs. While some homes will garner local attention, there are specific places in New Jersey that have organized festivities surrounding the lights. As well, some locations are free while others may charge an admission fee. In New Jersey, there are options that meet your needs!

Amazing Holiday Lights in New Jersey

Holiday Light Show, Historic Smithville (Smithville)

Floating on Lake Meone in the center of Historic Smithville are 120 Christmas trees made out of 50,000 lights which are synchronized to music once the sun sets. This light show is not the only attraction as on select dates there is a FREE story time with Mrs. Claus. Children will always delight in asking the Talking Tree where some of the activities are located.  As well, there is holiday shopping to be enjoyed at this spot.

Holiday in the Park, Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson)

Holiday in the Park transforms Six Flags Great Adventure to the land of festive delight. While not all the amusement rides will be open there is a significant number that are available such as Battle for Metropolis and The Joker. What really attracts visitors is the millions of lights that adorn distinct themed areas. Sip some hot chocolate, visit Santa Claus and enjoy the shows!

Holiday Lights Spectacular, Turtle Back Zoo (West Orange)

Find out why thousands of visitors return every year to see the sparkling lights at Turtle Back Zoo’s Holiday Spectacular. There are several reasons this is an annual tradition for the families of New Jersey. Families can meet Santa, touch a sting ray at the touch tank, watch the Sea Lion show or admire the twinkling lights. In addition, there are themed weekends in the first 3 weekends of December. Our favorite part? This is all FREE!

Christmas Light Show, Skylands Stadium (Augusta)

Skylands Stadium brings back the Christmas Light Show which has expanded every year! Families can load up the kids in the car and drive through this winter wonderland. This year, there is an added light show you can walk through, go ice skating or snap a photo by the 8′ polar bear.

Sea of Lights, Jenkinson’s Aquarium (Point Pleasant)

Holiday lights and sea animals? At Jenkinson’s Aquarium’s Sea of Lights, families can observe and learn about penguins, sharks and other aquatic creatures as they enjoy boardwalk all light up. Children will enjoy photos with Santa, games, crafts and other festivities.

Vernon Lights Festival

New for 2019 is Vernon Lights Festival A Wonderland of Lanterns and Light which is located in gorgeous Sussex County NJ! This incredible walk-through experience will feature music, entertainment, multi-sensory exhibits, an international food court, massive lanterns and more. Interactive and modern art displays will also be there as well as a heated tent with an indoor playground.

Magic of Lights

Head to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ this holiday season for an incredible drive-thru lights experience the entire family will enjoy. New this year to the event is Illuminating Mega Trees. Magic of Lights takes place daily November 13-January 2.

Hersheypark (Pennsylvania)

The sweetest place on earth during the holidays is right across the bridge in Pennsylvania. From reindeer to amusement rides, Hersheypark has been a family favorite for years. Imagine seeing over 4 millions lights while sipping America’s favorite hot chocolate? Then check out the Christmas Candylane.

Peddler’s Village (Pennsylvania)

Peddler’s Village is an outdoor shopping center near New Hope in Pennsylvania. Every tree is covered in twinkling lights and as you walk by there are vendors selling warm apple cider. You can also see Santa or check out the stunning Gingerbread House display. It is a unique shopping experience but to walk through is incredibly fun and festive!
