Play Fair 2017: Explore, Learn and Play

In full disclosure, in exchange for membership, tickets and/or payment, we have entered into a partnership with this company to bring you their brain boosting experiences. All opinions are honest and our own.

As the Toy Industry has congregated for over 100 years in the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, it is solely for those in the industry which means no children. Since toys are designed to encourage children to play this may seem strange; however, in 2016 Play Fair was born which changed EVERYTHING! The Toy Industry Association in collaboration with LeftField Media created an immersive experience that has etched a space for children to play. Play Fair has been so popular that it is now hosted independent of Toy Fair presented by Spin Master and Toys R’ Us.

Mommy University has been asked to sponsor this event again which thrills us because it mirrors our core mission statement that at the center of play is the opportunity to learn. Children learn best from play, and at Play Fair families can enjoy this experience together.

5 Reasons to Explore Play Fair

Visit Interactive Exhibits

Since toys encourage play and play is how children learn, imagine their joy when they are transported to a different world. At Play Fair, toy companies will offer engaging exhibits to encourage their imagination. Several museum quality displays will transform this space as they highlight rare toys as well as drafts of future toys. Some of the displays will have opportunities for children to wear, try, test, play and learn. In 2016, my daughter was thrilled to become part of the Shimmer and Shine team. This year, there will be a Nerf arena and builder demos with Magformers.

Meet Your Favorite Characters

While it is exciting to for kids to enjoy the interactive spaces and be able to play with toys they are thinking about for the holidays, the biggest celebrities during Play Fair will be the toys walking around. Yes, some of their favorite characters will be making appearance in unique photo opportunities. This year, kids (and parents) will have the chance to meet favorites like PAW Patrol and PJ Masks as well as LeapFrog’s Scout and Violet. This event will have innovative photo opportunities that will make it fun for little fans (and possibly older fans with young hearts).

Test out the Demo Areas

It can be difficult to buy new toys for children. While my children each have their own distinctive preferences, I still want them to try new toys; however, I don’t want to buy a toy they will not use. At Play Fair, children can test out this season’s hot new toys such as racing on land or blazing across the sky with Air Hogs 2-in-1 Hyper Drift Drone in the Spin Master booth. This immersive event invites children to sit and play with toys that you might be considering adding to their birthday and holiday wish lists. You might also learn which toys fit their needs best.

Watch a Toy Unboxing

If your kids are not hooked on watching an unboxing video, then you will be surprised by their fascination. An unboxing is when a vlogger records the opening of a toy.  At Play Fair, however, visitors will be treated to reveals and get a peek into what will be released over the next year. Unboxing videos are informative for children which helps them understand what toys are a good fit for them and what they might include. They also tap into hot new trends which helps when generating lists for the holidays or birthdays.

Enjoy Special Events/Experiences

In addition to all the fun mentioned above, Play Fair will also offer fun and exciting special events and experiences. One of the coolest event released so far is the chance for kids to learn dance steps from the iconic Radio City Rockettes! How cool is that? On Sunday, November 5 in the afternoon, aspiring dancers will have this opportunity of a lifetime! Guests can also experience Minecraft Virtual Reality, a spa experience from ALEX SPA and more!

If I was lucky enough to go with my family, I would be excited to see the Shopkins Fashion Show, some of the screenings and enjoy all of the awesome brands and products on the show floor.
